Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I am working with International Youth Alliance for Family Planning and I stand as Country Coordinator for BURUNDI. I am nurse by profession and I have been an East African Community Youth Ambassador for BURUNDI.

In family planning, I have been providing family planning methods in a Health Care Center , conducting Youth workshops on family planning, distributing family planning methods among the Youth and conducting online discussions on family planning issues with my fellow youth via whattsap.

I am now establishing Family plannig clubs in Universities and Secondry Schools to create a platform whereby Youth meet and exchange knoweledge on Family Planning and learn family planning rights. I am working with the Ministry of Youth and the Ministry of Health to achieve this goal.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Family planning is more than necessary to be tackled in my comunity whereby the demografic growth is at terrible speed with a remarquable growth among young generations. There is also a crying need that Youth may be aware on family planning issues for the future of their reproductive life. Some youth are being married independently to their agreement as if their parents are the ones to decide when to be married .Those are the reasons that sparked my passion for family planning.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your family planning efforts, and what have you done to overcome it?

I have faced two major biggest challenges in my family planning efforts. The one being that the family panning is consider to be a tabou subject to be discussed especially between the Youth and their families. The second is that religions are somehow obstacles on family planning discussions and actions.
I am working with the Ministries of Youth and Health to see how we may engage religion leaders in family planning efforts. We need to sensitize them on the benefits of Family planning and health

What is your (country/region/city)’s biggest challenge in family planning, and how can it be addressed?

My country's biggest challenge in family planning is that family planning being considered as a tabou subject. We need to take it serious and associate it with other levels of life.

Addressing it requires everyone's efforts in the society especiialy starting at family level. Parents have to start engaging discussions with their children as the basic education is acquired from there. We to educate young peoplee who are the future and current leaders of our community.

What do you want to accomplish in the next 5 years?

In the next five years , I want to see the young people in my country being champions of family planning. I want to see young people being free to decide when and how to produce children or getting married. I want also to see the demographic growth being comparable to economic growth. Finally I want to see family planning care and methods being available to all citizens in my community.
