120 Under 40 celebrates young champions
of family planning.

With your help, we will recognize the next generation of leaders making a difference in reproductive health worldwide.

2017 Winners

Starting March 22, 2017, 120 Under 40 will accept nominations of young people who have made significant contributions to family planning worldwide. Nominations will be accepted until May 17, 2017. 2016 nominees can be re-nominated; 2016 winners are not eligible for future rounds.

The 40 winners for 2017 will be chosen by the public via online voting and a jury of experts and leaders in family planning. Online public voting will take place June 1 to June 15, 2017. Nominees who receive at least 75 votes will pass to the jury scoring round, in which they will be scored by a panel of experts in family planning according to the published evaluation criteria. Finally, the project secretariat will review the results and determine the 40 winners, all of whom will receive $1,000 from the Gates Institute.

The 40 winners for 2017 will be announced in September. A smaller representative group of the 40 winners will be invited to the United States for a series of celebrations, events, and activities around World Contraception Day (September 26).

The process took place for the first time in 2016; 2017 is the second round. It will repeat once more in 2019, so that 120 young family planning champions will be assembled by 2020, a highly significant year for the family planning community.
